Chhattisgarh government announces women's safety campaign in schools, colleges

The Chhattisgarh government stated on Friday that it will begin a special campaign to ensure the protection and well-being of girls and women as well as to offer them necessary services. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced on Twitter the commencement of a programme dubbed “Hamar Beti-Hamar Maan” (our daughters, our honour), in which female police officers will tour schools and institutions in all districts to inform girls about their legal rights.

“Daughters are our pride and the nucleus of the state’s promising future. “A society advances forward on the path of growth when daughters are protected and empowered,” tweeted Baghel. According to him, female police officers will meet with kids in every district’s schools and colleges to inform them about their legal rights, good touch/bad touch, cybercrimes, molestation, and sexual exploitation, among other topics. He added that pupils will be taught how to use mobile applications for their safety. They will also communicate with students and mentor them on how to face difficult situations.

In addition, the chief minister announced the deployment of a special patrolling squad of female police officers in girls’ schools, universities, and other locations frequented by women and girls. According to the chief minister, a helpline number will be made public where complaints about inappropriate behaviour, molestation, and other crimes against women can be made and immediate action would be taken. Women investigators will prioritise looking into crimes against women, and inspector generals of police (IGPs) of ranges would be responsible for making sure that such investigations are finished and chargesheets are delivered to the court within the allotted period.
